There are 3 panels.
PANEL 1: The blacksmith and his daughter, Fran, are walking through the village. Here Fran is a girl of about ten years old. They are walking along a dirt road with large, plain stones. On the sides of the road there are some market stalls, made of wood with precarious roofs of leather or tarp. One of the stalls sells different types of meat, with fish and animal legs hanging from the roof. Opposite, another stall sells vegetables and fruit. Some villagers are walking along the street looking at the goods, others riding bicycles. An older man walks by with the help of a cane and greets the greengrocer. A couple of children run through the crowd. Further to the sides are the houses of the village, most of them simple and modest, surrounded by grass and some tall trees.
PANEL 2: Fran is walking, looking curiously at everything. A few steps behind is the blacksmith with a leather bag in his hand, observing the different merchants like the other passers-by. Fran is wearing a plain t-shirt and shorts, while the blacksmith is wearing a rolled-up shirt, trousers with suspenders and high-top boots.
PANEL 3: As they walk among the people, the blacksmith looks at Fran and asks her: “We leave early tomorrow Fran. Did you tell Nicolas to prepare the rod?”, to which Fran answers, without turning around: “We go alone, pa’” while still watching the surroundings.
